AILA Review is a refereed publication of the Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée, an international federation of national associations for applied linguistics. All volumes are guest edited.

The present AILA Review volume contributes a collective, retrospective exploration of where the field of Applied Linguistics, as a research community, currently is, as well as a forward-looking analysis of which future avenues are to be explored in the research methods used in the domains of Sociolinguistics, the study of Language and Culture, Bilingualism and Multilingualism, and Second Language Acquisition. This collective, critical exploration of research methods provides convincing evidence of the theoretical and epistemological pluralism that characterizes the field, of the close association between theory and research methodology in Applied Linguistics work and, as a consequence, of the flexibility and innovativeness of the field in terms of expanding methodological approaches and crossing methodological boundaries.
