English Language Teaching in the Islamic Republic of Iran

The teaching and learning of foreign languages is one of the most powerful tools we have to build a better understanding of, and stronger connections with, other parts of the world; through this process, we build trust for and of ourselves,  our communities, and our countries. It is in the interests of both the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) and the UK to improve the bilateral relationship. The British Council believes that better teaching and learning of English in the IRI, and better teaching and learning of Farsi/Persian in the UK will lead to more interest in each other’s peoples and societies, a greater understanding of each other’s cultures, and a deeper trust.
