Moving Target

This text is an exploration of the practice of translating for the theatre. Using 12 essays of work from Eastern and Western Europe, Canada and the United States, this book draws together existing translation theory with contemporary practice in the hope that it can shed light on the aspect of translation in the production process. How does a theatre translator mediate between source text, performance text and target audience? Many of these types of questions are asked and answered by the text. Central to the debate is the role of the translator in creating a linguistic text and a performance text. The book covers areas of cultural theory as well as theatre studies and translation studies to reveal the joys and frustrations of the translator when translating for theatre performance.
