Dr. Díaz-Vera completed his education at Madrid Complutense University (Old and Middle English Studies) and Copenhagen University (Scandinavian Studies). He has taught in a variety of Universities in Spain, UK, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Algeria, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. He has worked for the European Commission (EACEA) on the use of mobile devices and videogaming form intercultural and interlinguistic communication. He has published extensively in the fields of linguistic variation and change, multilingualism, language contact and linguistic representation and cognition. His main area of research is the study of conceptual variation in relation to the expression of emotions across languages and linguistic varieties, with special attention to diachronic and sociolinguistic variation, with over 50 scientific peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and 10 books printed or in preparation. His research integrates methods from diachronic and synchronic linguistics, art history, sociology, anthropology, psychology, cognitive linguistics and corpus linguistics to explore connections between emotions, language and cognition.
